主要的关系代词有who,whom,whose,which和that。
①who指人,在定语从句中作主语或宾语;
whom指人,在定语从句中作宾语;
The teacher who/whom you want to see has come.
Here is the coat which will be made to you.
I have eaten bread that/which he gave to me.

The girl whom I spoke to is my cousin.
This is the pencil whose point is broken.
He came back for the book which he had forgotten.
He said he saw me there, which was a lie.
I've forgotten much of the Latin I once knew.
He's changed. He's not the man he was.

①先行词为all, anything, everything, nothing, something等时。
I will do all (that) I can to help you.
②先行词被序数词、形容词最高级或the only, the very等所修饰时。
He was the only person that joined the army in his village that year.
They talked about the people and the things (that)they remembered in the school.
Who is the boy that was here just now?
The pencil with which he was writing broke.
I don’t like the way (in which/that) he talks to me.

used to/be used to的分别:
Mother used not to be so forgetful.
②be used to + doing: 对……
Scarf is used to taking a walk.(现在习惯于散步)
This used to be a shabby house.

The tree, that is four hundred years old, is very famous here.
We depend on the land from which we get our food.

a.在there be 句型中,只用that,不用which。
b.在不定代词,如:anything, nothing, the one, all, much, few, any, little等作先行词时,只用that,不用which。
c.先行词有the only, the very.(恰恰,正好).any. few. little. no. all 修饰时,只用that。
Finally, the thief handed everything that he had stolen to the police.

1.当先行词为all, little, much, few, everything, none 等不定代词时关系代词用that而不用which.
There are few books that you can read in this book store.
He asked about the factories and workers that he had visited.
Guilin is one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever visited.
The first sight that was caught at the Great Wall has made a lasting impression on him.
5.当先行词被the only, the very, the same, the right等修饰时,关系代词用that,不用which.
It is the only book that he bought himself.
6.当先行词被all, every, any, much, little, few, no等修饰时,关系代词用that,不用which.
There is no clothes that fit you here.
Which of the books that had pictures was worth reading?
8.在强调句型" It is ... that ..." 中,只用that,不用which.
It is in this room that he was born twenty years ago.
9.在" such (the same) ... as ..."
We need such materials as (not which) can bear high temperature.
之意时,用as, 不用which.
Mary was late again, as had been expected.
As we all know, oceans cover more than 70% of the earth.

1.关系代词which,whom,who,that在定语从句中作宾语时可以省略。
Here is the man (who/that/whom)you're been looking for.
She is all (that) a teacher should be.
This is the best dictionary (that) there is in the library.
That is the reason (why) I did it.
I don't know the way that/ which leads to the top of the mountains.
I don't know the exact time (when/that) the sports meet will take place.

1.在介词+whom与介词+which中,whom,which不能省略。
That is the headmaster with whom my father was talking just now.
The elephant is like a spear,as anybody can see.
3.在the same ...as,such...as,as...as,the same...that中,as,that即使作宾语,也不能省略I have bought the same bicycle as you have (bought).
This is the same book that I read the day before yesterday.
This is the book (which) I read yesterday and which I find very interesting.

关系词通常是用来引导定语从句的,但as,than和but这三个词却与which, who, that, where, when和why等典型的关系词不同。
一、 as作为准关系代词出现在the same ... as, such ... as, 和as ... as等结构中。
这时, as前面通常要有名词;
as后面的从句意义上不像是通常的定语从句;
1. the same ... as
She is the same person as came here last Sunday.
This is the same watch as I lost while I was doing the sightseeing in Shanghai three months ago.
China is not the same country as it used to be.
You should learn to do housework in the same way as your mother does it.
2. such ... as
Let children read such books as tend to make them better and brighter.
This is not such an interesting book as you just talked about.
Such a bad man as he is will be punished.
3. as ... as
He has as much money as is required.
I have as many friends as you (do).
As is known to all, Taiwan is one of the Chinese provinces。

二、than作为准关系词 出现在more ... than, less ... than, fewer ... than等结构中。
Take it easy, I have more money than is needed.
I have more/fewer books than you (do).
He is a better boy than you (are).
这时but在意义上相当于“who ... not ...”或“which/that ... not ...”。
There is no one who is not conccrned about his future. (= There is no one but is concerned about his future.)
  2. 定语从句中有can, will, shall, must, may, should, ought to等助动词或情态动词,在将其改为含but的复合句时,这些助动词或情态动词后面不能再有not
There is nothing that she can’t do. (= There is nothing but she can do.)
There is no one who doesn’t wish to make great achievements. (= There is no one but wishes to make great achievements.)
He said he saw me there, which was a lie。
I've forgotten much of the Latin I once knew。

可分为两类,一类是用于连接句子或从句,常见的有therefore, otherwise, however, moreover, still, thus, meanwhile等;
另一类是用于引导从句或不定式,主要有when, why, where, how等。
例如:We all tried our best; however, we lost the game.
Tell me when we shall leave.
I do not know how to find him.

连接副词的性质类似于并列连词,使用时其前通常用分号或句号;
I don't like it; besides, it's too expensive.
We all tried our best; however, we lost the game. / We all tried our best. However, we lost the game.
Peter is our youngest child, and we have three others besides.
He may, however, come later.
We all tried out best. We lost the game, however.

Tell me when we shall leave. / Tell me when to leave.
I don't know how I can find him. / I don't know how to find him.
Where we can get the money is just our problem. / Where to get the money is just our problem.
That's why he speaks English so well.
I don't know why I must leave.(我不知道我为什么必须离开),但不能说 I don't know why to leave。

所谓连接代词和副词,实际上就是我们以前学过的疑问代词和副词,如who, whose, whom, what, which, when,where, why,how以及由how构成的词组。
however, so, then,moreover,concequencely,hence,also,besides,,otherwise,therefore,thus等。
I feel a bit tired. However, I can hold on.
They talked about it for hours. Finally, they decided to go。

They talked about it for hours. Finally, they decided to go。
I have never been to Wales. I, therefore, don't know much about it.

The weather was cold. Therefore(Thus), we stayed home.

连接词:that, whether, if, as if, as though(不充当从句的任何成分,但绝不能省略)
连接代词:what, whatever, who, whoever, whom, whomever, whose, which, whichever.
连接副词:when, whenever, where, wherever, how, however, why

That she was chosen made us very happy.
We heard the news that our team had won.
It is not important who will go.
It is still unknown which team will win the match.

如stop—stopped,permit—permitted

过去式是发生过的事;

He rushed into the room, his face covered with sweat.
This done,we went home.
All our savings gone, the couple started looking for jobs.
That point settled, the speaker went on to the next one.
With everything taken into consideration,we all think this is a very good plan.
With different methods used, different results are obtained.
She went angrily away without a word spoken.
The work left him exhausted.
The doorkeeper heard the chain and bolts withdrawn.
The tenant found the house renovated.

I don’t want my name linked with him.
The person concerned should like this matter settled immediately.
I had my car repaired
I had my hair cut
We must get the television set repaired
He had his window broken to pieces.

①只做情态动词:must, can(could),may(might)……
③具有情态动词特征:have(had, has) to, used to
注:mustn't代表强烈禁止 must表示主观,have to表示客观。
常用的有:can  may  could  must   have  use  .

He could be here soon.
We can't carry the heavy box.
I'm sorry I can't help you.

What have you been doing since?
I am afraid I must be going.
You may have read some account of the matter.

We used to grow beautiful roses.
I asked if he would come and repair my television set.
They need not have been punished so severely.
She dare not say what she thinks.
Still,she needn't have run away.
Would you mind very much if I ask you to do something?
She told him he ought not to have done it.
You should have washed the wound.
Well,you shouldn't be reading a novel.
Must I read books every day、
No,you needn't

must 和 have to 的区别:must 表示说话人的主观思想,have to 表示客观需要。
ought + to have done 句型。
ought not to have done 句型。
6.will (would)决心,愿望。 would 为 will 的过去式,

基本助动词有三个:do,have和be;
情态助动词基本的有十四个:may, might; can, could; will, would; shall, should; must, need, dare, used to, ought to.had better 上述两类助动词的共同特征是,在协助主动词构成限定动词词组时,具有作用词的功能:
He didn't go and neither did she.
The meeting might not start until 5 o'clock.
Must you leave right now?
Nowhere can he obtain any information about his sister.
Hardly had he arrived when she started complaining.
A: Who can solve this crossword puzzle?
B: Tom can.
A: Shall I write to him?
B: Yes, do.

1.在肯定句中一般用must (一定),may(可能),might /can, could(也许,或许)。
(1)He must/may/might know the answer to this question?
(2)It is cold in the room. They must have turned off the heating.
2. 否定句中用can’t / couldn’t(不可能), may not/might not (可能不)。
(1)It can’t/couldn’t be the headmaster. He has gone to America.
(2)He may not/might not know the scientist.
3. 疑问句中用can/could (能……?)。
(1)Could he have finished the task?
(2)Can he be at home now?

(1)She must / may / might / could arrive before 5.  5: 00 前她一定/可能/也许到。
(2)She must/may/might/could walk miles and miles among the hills without meeting anyone.
(1)He must / may / might / could be listening to the radio now.
(2)He can’t ( couldn’t ) / may ( might ) not be at home at this time.
(3)Mr. Bush is on time for everything .How can ( could ) he be late for the opening ceremony ?
(1)It must / may / might / could have rained last night .The ground is wet.
(2)The door was locked. He can ( could ) not / may ( might ) not have been at home .
(3)Can / Could he have gotten the book?
(4)It’s seven o’clock. Jack should/ought to be here at any moment.
(5)She should / ought to have attended your birthday party, but she had to look  after her mother in hospital.
(6)Tom should not /ought not to have told me your secret, but he meant no harm.
He is a teacher.
He always kept silent at meeting.
This matter rests a mystery.
He looks tired.
He seems (to be) very sad.
This kind of cloth feels very soft.
This flower smells very sweet.
这些系动词表示主语变成什么样,变化系动词主要有become, grow, turn, fall, get, go, come, run.
例如:
He became mad after that.

The rumor proved false.
The search proved difficult.
His plan turned out a success.

The door was closed.

The door was closed by me.

My job is teaching English.

Mr Wang is reading an evening paper now.

2.

a表示人体感官的系动词有soundtastelookfeelsmell等,后面接形容词;

c表示主语继续或保持某种身份、特征状态的系动词有continuekeepremainstaystand liereststay等,后面接表示状态的形容词;

常见的有come true, fall asleep, fall ill, go bad, come right, run wild, wear thin, turn nasty等。

4.

The newly-invented soft drinking tastes quite unique.

The chef is tasting the fish carefully.

He is being kind.(一时而不能持久的性质)他装出和蔼可亲的样子。
I hope you are keeping well.(语气委婉)我希望你保持健康。
Are you feeling any better?(语气亲切)你感觉好了些吗?
Your hand feels cold.(无意识的静态性质。)
Your hand is feeling cold.(×)
The doctor is feeling her pulse.(有意识的动态动作)医生正在给她拿脉。
The soup tastes good.(静态性质,无进行时)这汤的味道不错。
The cook is tasting the soup.(动态动作,有进行时)厨师在尝汤的味道。

The camels can smell the water a mile off.
The girl is smelling the flower.
The dinner smells good.

He is growing taller and taller.
Our life is getting better and better.
The things are getting worse.

The apple is tasted good.
The apple is tasted by me.

英语中某些表示瞬间意义的系动词不能与“for+时间段,since+时间点,how long until+时间,by + 时间,so far”等直接连用。例如:
He has become a teacher for 2 years.
He has been a teacher for 2 years.
He has turned writer since 3 years ago.
He has been a writer since 3 years ago.
或It is three years since he turned writer.
He got angry until his child came back home.
He didn’t get angry until his child came back home.

.prep.
①能接as if/as though表语从句的系动词有:look(看起来),smell(闻起来),sound(听起来),feel(觉得);appear(显得),seem(似乎)。例如:
It looks as if we are going to have snow.
He looked as if he had just stepped out of my book of fairy tales.
She seemed as if (though) she couldn’t understand why Laura was there.
It sounds to me as though there’s a tap running somewhere.
She felt as if her head were splitting.
The river appeared as if enveloped in smog.
It seems as if it were spring already.
②可用于“It+系动词+that从句”结构的有:seem, appear, 不可用be, look。如:
It seemed that he had made some serious mistakes in his work.
It appeared that he was talking to himself.
③能用不定式作表语的系动词有:be, seem, get, look, appear, prove, grow.
Her job is to look after the children.
He seems not to look after the children.
She looks to be a young girl of twenty year-old.
He didn’t appear to dislike it.
My advice proved to be wrong.
He will grow to like this work gradually.
④能与there连用的系动词有:be, appear, seem.
There appeared to be only one room.
There seems(to be)no need to go.

It doesn’t seem that we can get our money back.= It seems that we can’t get our money back.
He seems not to be her father.= He doesn’t seem to be her father.
The baby doesn’t appear to be awake.= The baby appears not to be awake.

Be + P.P常可以用get + P.P. Get + P.P.
Last night I got caught in the downpour.
The new car got scratched.
如get dressed, get lost等。
John got injured while playing football last Saturday.
They got married last month.

一般式 (not) to do (not) to be done
完成式 (not) to have done (not) to have been done
进行式 (not) to be doing
完成进行式 (not) to have been doing

To remember this is very important.
It is very important to remember this.
He seems to be ill.
My job is to sweep the floor.
You are to come when I call.
I can not afford to buy a car.
I had no choice but to wait.
I find it difficult to learn Japanese well.
Who taught you to drive?
I have a question to ask you.
注意:有的名词(如way, chance, right等)后用作不定式可换成of doing sth.
如:It is the best way to do (of doing) it.
attempt  courage  decision  effort  fortune  failure  invitation  wish
I went to France to learn French.

介词at, in, on的区别:
I get up at six in the morning.
He got married at the age of 25.
We watch TV in the evening.
He went to Japan in 1946.
He left here on the fifth of May.

We live at No 87 Beijing Road.
The hospital is at the end of the street.
at my sister’s 在我姐姐家  at the doctor’s 在医务室
What’s in the box?
He lives in Paris with his wife.
The meeting was held at [in] the hotel.
in Shanghai 在上海    at the station 在车站
Our plane refuelled at London.
We stopped for an hour at Moscow on our way to Paris.
What’s on the table?
There’s a wallet lying on the ground.
He works on a farm.

in the street (英) / on the street (美) 在街上
in the road (英) / on the road (美) 在路上
in the team (英) / on the team (美) 在这个队
at the weekend (英) / on the weekend (美) 在周末
at weekends (英) / on weekends (美) 在周末
in bed / on the bed 在床上
in the tree (多指树外之物) / on the tree (多指树本身之物) 在树上

 1. 三者都可表示“除外”,但 besides 表示一种累加关系,意指“除了什么之外,还有……”;
Besides his wife, his daughter also went to see him.
Nobody went to see him except [but] his wife.
”,与but, except 同义。如:
No one passed the exam besides [except] Jim.

2. 关于 but 与 except:
All are here but one.
All are here except one.
① no, no one, nobody, nothing, nowhere 等
② any, anyone, anybody, anything, anywhere 等
③ every, everyone, everybody, everything, everywhere 等
④ all, none 等
⑤ who, what, where 等
Everyone knows it but you.
I haven’t told anybody but you.
No one but he [him] showed much interest in it.
The window is never opened except in summer.
The window is never opened but in summer.
Everyone is tired but (except) me.
正:Everyone but (except) me is tired.
误:But (Except) me, everyone is tired.
Except for me, everyone is tired.

3. 关于 except 与 except for:
All compositions are well written except yours.
His composition is good except for a few spelling mistakes.

4. 关于 except for 与 but for:
Except for me, everyone passed the exam.
But for my help, she would not have passed the exam.
But for the atmosphere plants would die.
I don’t want to go; besides, I’m too tired.
This car belongs to Smith, and he has two others besides.
